Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course today announced its six-event 2009 schedule, which features a wide variety of world-class contemporary and vintage racing as well as the largest motorsports event in the state of Ohio.
Highlighting the schedule will be a doubleheader weekend featuring the American Le Mans Series and IndyCar Series (Aug. 7-9). The Acura Sports Car Challenge will showcase the high-tech, factory-backed prototype and GT machines of the American Le Mans Series on Saturday, while IndyCar’s Honda-powered open-wheelers will take center stage in The Honda Indy 200 presented by Westfield Insurance on Sunday. Both series feature spectacularly competitive racing and some of the most recognizable names in motorsports. Ohio’s largest motorsports event, the weekend also will include SPEED World Challenge, Firestone Indy Lights and Formula Atlantic series races.
Among the other major professional events in the track’s 2009 lineup will be the EMCO Gears Classic presented by KeyBank, featuring the Rolex Sports Car Series (June 19-21), and the Honda Super Cycle Weekend presented by Dunlop Tire (July 17-19), one of the most popular stops on the AMA Superbike Series calendar.
The EMCO Gears Classic will be headlined by a Saturday evening endurance event for the Daytona Prototype and GT machines of the Rolex Sports Car Series, and will feature KONI Challenge Series, Ford Mustang Challenge and Volkswagen Jetta Cup races as well. The Honda Super Cycle Weekend will feature two Wiseco Superbike 100s for the American Superbike class, as well as Daytona SportBike, SuperSport and Red Bull AMA Rookies Cup action.
Also on the schedule will be two longstanding events for vintage racing enthusiasts. The Vintage Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio (June 26-28) will celebrate featured marquee Mini Cooper and include 10 SVRA group races, a Sports 2000 reunion race, the annual Concours d’Elegance and British Car Showdown, while the AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days (July 24-26) will feature road racing, motocross, cross country and time trial events as well as displays, seminars, new model demo rides, a swap meet and more.
The track’s 48th season will conclude with the AMA Road Race Grand Championships (Sept. 11-13), a national championship showcase for America’s best amateur motorcycle riders.
