(June 15, 2010) ¬– Another exciting season of racing is set to begin at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course starting with a weekend filled with some of the most competitive motorsports action the country has to offer on June 18-20.
The EMCO Gears Classic presented by KeyBank will kick off Mid-Ohio’s 49th season on the weekend of June 18-20, and will feature a variety of motorsports action on the track including competition amongst competitors in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge and GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 on Saturday, followed by wheel-to-wheel racing from the VW Jetta TDI® Cup, Ford Racing Mustang Challenge, and ARCA Truck Series on Sunday.
Last year’s headline race wowed fans with one of the tightest finishes of the season, as Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas guided the #01 TELMEX Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates car to a win by just .491 seconds over the #76 Krohn Racing entry driven by Nic Jonsson and Ricardo Zonta. Fans will have no shortage of action to watch as this weekend will have over 21 hours of practicing, qualifying and racing. Pruett and Rojas lead the Daytona Prototype season standings heading into round 7 of 12.
Off the track, spectators will be provided with a number of activities and opportunities to get up close to their favorite drivers and cars. On Saturday, fans can get signatures during the autograph session to be held in the Honda Pavilion. Also on Saturday, spectators with a Paddock Pass will get to take a walk in the pits and see the cars just before they fire up their engines during the Grid Walk before each race.
Throughout the weekend in the infield, the GRAND-AM Fan Zone will have cars on display as well as a hydraulically-seated simulator for spectators to try out. Other features of the Fan Zone include tech talks from the pros.
