SuperSport Race # 2 Results
Sunday, the final day of the Honda Super Cycle Weekend presented by Dunlop Tire
, put a great cap on an exciting three days of racing at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
The morning began with warm-ups from all four classes before the competition took a break to open up the facility for several fan activities. The 20th Annual Mid-Ohio Dealer Ride allowed hundreds of bike owners to ride their machines on the racetrack at 10:30 a.m. as AMA Pro Racing's riders headed to the Honda Pavilion to sign autographs for droaves of fans. At 11:30 a.m., the pits opened for paddock passholders to visit prior to the SuperSport race # 2. With every team staged on the grid, fans were able to take pictures with riders, their bikes and even talk a little strategy with crew members.
Following the National Anthem, the grid was cleared for the second SuperSport race - another one that J.D. Beach dominated throughout, this time winning by 12.942 seconds over teammate Cameron Beaubier. Joey Pascarella finished 6th and earned enough points to clinch the SuperSport West championship with a mathematically insurmountable lead over Elena Myers.
In the second Daytona SportBike race of the weekend, the 2009 sweep winner Danny Eslick found his way back to the podium as he bulldozed the field, winning by 4.481 seconds over Steve Rapp. Rounding out the top three was Bobby Fong, with his second podium finish of the weekend
The day's third race was the second half of the Wiseco SuperBike 100 Doubleheader. Tommy Hayden and yesterday's winner Josh Hayes ran close throughout the 21 laps, but Hayes was unable to overtake him as Hayden led 18 laps. Ohio's Larry Pegram finished third. Hayes maintains a slim lead in the American SuperBike standings 285-281.
The XR1200 class made its first appearance at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course (in just its second all time race) as the final event of the weekend. Eslick reached the top of the box again as he won from the pole. Finishing second and third were Sean Higbee and Jake Holden, respectively.
