(July 19, 2012) – The American Motorcyclist Association returns to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for the 18th time to host AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days this weekend, July 20-22.
The historic bike event brings motorcycle fans from near and far to the Lexington, Ohio racetrack as the weekend offers competition from dozens of race classes, a wide variety of bike shows, informative seminars and North America’s largest motorcycle swap meet – featuring several hundred vendors.
“AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days continues to get bigger and better each year,” said Craig Rust, president of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. “The weekend offers multiple race classes in both road and off-road categories, seminars, bike shows, and of course, one of the largest swap meets in the country which always draws a large crowd.”
Mods and Rockers are honored this year as the Marque of the Year
. The Mods and Rockers display tent will be set up in the infield with machines, memorabilia, history displays, live interviews and entertainment throughout the weekend.
AMA Motorcycle Hall-of-Famer and prominent designer Craig Vetter will represent the brand as Grand Marshal. Vetter has made significant contributions to motorcycling including the iconic Windjammer fairings, the Triumph X-75 Hurricane, and the Mystery Ship limited-production high-performance motorcycles. Fans will have several opportunities to meet the motorcycling legend, including special autograph signings.
The weekend offers several other activities and events including Club Corral displays in the infield, a display from this year’s Classic Club, Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club, and seminars delivered by highly acclaimed individuals in the motorcycle industry consisting of the Grand Marshal Craig Vetter, Phil Waters, Don Hutchinson and many more.
KTM, the Official Motorcycle of Mid-Ohio, will have a wide variety of bikes available as part of the off road demo rides, and Can-Am BRP, Kawasaki and Kymco will provide the bikes for the street factory demo rides. Over twenty different race classes will compete all weekend, featuring road and off-road racing with bikes from a number of different eras and of many different models. The off-road racing will take place on the dirt track at the Ashland County Fairgrounds and the road racing will take place on the track’s 2.4-mile, 15-turn configuration. A comprehensive motorsports facility, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course features a permanent road-racing circuit with two primary configurations: a 2.4-mile, 15-turn, and a 2.25- mile, 13-turn circuit.
