2010 Series Champ Dario Franchitti, Ohioan Graham Rahal and fan favorite Danica Patrick lead the group expected to test
(July 21, 2011) – Fans are welcome to attend the expansive IZOD IndyCar Series test on Thursday, July 28 as several teams prepare for the Honda Indy® 200 at Mid-Ohio on August 5-7.
There are 20 drivers and 11 teams tentatively scheduled to test at the Lexington, Ohio track next Thursday. Among those expected to test include Ohio native Graham Rahal, fan favorite Danica Patrick, two-time Mid-Ohio winner Scott Dixon and the 2010 Series Champion and 2010 Honda Indy® 200 winner Dario Franchitti.
Spectators are invited to the track, free of charge, to watch their favorite IndyCar drivers test their machines as they gear up for the August race at Mid-Ohio. Eight of the 20 drivers expected to participate are currently in the Top 10 in points, including Franchitti, Dixon, Oriol Servia, Tony Kanaan, Marco Andretti, Rahal, JR Hildebrand and Alex Tagliani.
“We had a tremendous turnout during our last open test in June, and are hoping that this one will see an even larger crowd. We also encourage fans to bring their friends and family that may not be familiar with the series in hopes that we can create some new interest,” said Craig Rust, president of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
This test day will be open to the public from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. Fans wishing to attend the test may enter at Gate 3 and are permitted to watch the action from the Keyhole or the Infield. Further information and an access map will be distributed to fans when they arrive. They are also welcome to bring food and/or coolers. The teams will break for an hour at noon. Tickets for the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge & The Honda Indy® 200 at Mid-Ohio on August 5-7 will be available for purchase in the Infield during the test day.
The Honda Indy® 200 at Mid-Ohio is the eleventh stop of the season for the IZOD IndyCar Series. The American Le Mans Series will also be competing in the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge, which is one of three times all season that both series will be competing at the same event.
