Honda IndyCar Driver Simon Pagenaud to Teach Key to Safe Teen Driving Session in Dublin, Ohio Next Thursday

7/17/2012
Professional racer Simon Pagenaud to share his passion for responsible driving with teens.

DUBLIN, OHIO (July 17, 2012) – Simon Pagenaud, driver of the No. 77 Schmidt Hamilton HP Motorsports Honda-powered Dallara in the IZOD IndyCar Series, will serve as a guest instructor during the Key to Safe Teen Driving Program on July 27, 2012 at Dublin Scioto High School in Dublin, Ohio.

The free Key to Safe Teen Driving Program, sponsored by Key Bank and Kumho Tire USA and driven by The Mid-Ohio School, offers participants a condensed version of The Mid-Ohio School’s Honda Teen Defensive Driving Program. The Key to Safe Teen Driving program encompasses 24 sessions in 14 cities, spanning five states including Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana and New York. The program is designed to improve teen driving skills and raise awareness about the importance of proper training for young drivers. Teens will learn first-hand valuable skills during driving exercises including: skid control, emergency lane-changing and wet braking.

Pagenaud may go fast on a race track, but off-course, he is committed to safe driving practices.

“Defensive driving skills are important for every driver, especially beginning teen drivers,” said Pagenaud. “I am thrilled with the opportunity to teach this course alongside the skilled instructors from The Mid-Ohio School. Maybe the students will even teach me a few things before the Honda Indy 200!”

In 2011, as a last minute replacement for the injured Justin Wilson, Pagenaud finished 13th in the Honda Indy 200 driving the No. 22 Roll Coater Honda for Dale Coyne Racing.

The Key to Safe Teen Driving Program will include four sessions throughout the day starting at 9 a.m. and continuing at 10:45 a.m., 1:15 p.m. and 3 p.m. The sessions are completely free to teen drivers with their temporary permits or driver’s licenses, up to age 20. Simon will be teaching during the 10:45 a.m. session.

“Key to Safe Teen Driving is an amazing opportunity for young adults to learn from some of the best drivers and instructors in the country,” said Craig Rust, president of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and The Mid-Ohio School. “We are excited that Simon is able to share his expertise with American teen drivers in the Key to Safe Teen Driving Program.”

Registration for this event is open at keytosafeteendriving.com. Parents and teens also call 877-793-TMOS (8667) for more information.
