Claremont, NC - 15 February, 2012
- Charge up your batteries, pump up the tires and fill up the petrol tanks, folks, ‘cause the 2012 Gathering of Griffiths & TVRs (GOGT-12) is coming to town.
On the weekend of June 22-24, 2012, the annual car club show will be held at the spectacular Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in conjunction with the Vintage Grand Prix Weekend.
As in previous get-togethers, the headline guest of honor will prove to be a door-buster… only this year we will be featuring TWO guests who will be visiting for the two TVR-based marques. David Hives and John Mleczek are coming across the pond for the weekend festivities.
David Hives, the first competition director for the TVR company and the factory liaison between the TVR and Griffith Motors, Inc. during the formative months of the Griffith motorcar, and John Mleczek who followed in his father’s footsteps at TVR and worked there until the factory closed its doors in 2006, will be at the Gathering. The two have promised to bring several TVR items for the Saturday evening club auction.
With many stories of the early days at TVR and then the tales that can be told until the factory doors were shut in Blackpool will fill the hours as they mingle with the car owners at Mid-Ohio. They will both be the guest speakers at the dinner on Saturday evening and will serve as the honorary judges at the Griffith and TVR car show Saturday afternoon in the Griffith and TVR corral.
For an additional treat, the attendees have been invited to a scheduled Friday afternoon party at the home of Tom and Terri Shelton whose prize-winning Griffith Series 400 is the centerpiece of their stunning car collection.
During the race course weekend the car owners will have the opportunity to drive their cars for a show car lap and to mingle with the several hundred other British and American car owners celebrating their own automobile marques at the Vintage Grand Prix weekend.
Several sponsors of the GOGT-12 have donated products and prizes for the show. The list includes Wire Wheel Classic Sports Cars, White Post Restorations, Optima Batteries, Apple Hydraulics, Steele Rubber Products, Surf City Garage, California Car Cover, Subaru of Sioux Falls, S.D., Hagerty Insurance, Coker Tire, K&N Engineering, Inc, Griot's Garage, Inc. Meguiars Car Care Products, Jegs Performance, Mother’s Polish and many others.
Since the Griffith Motorcar Club Intl. is a non-dues paying club a pledge drive for the guests’ airfare has been started. Pledges will be met with special gifts including a special Griffith/TVR helmet autographed by the guests and any other TVR or Griffith factory workers present.
