The Mid-Ohio School, the high-performance driver and rider instruction program operated by TrueSports, Inc. and based at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, set a record for student enrollments during its 15th anniversary season of 2008.
More than 4,450 participants took part in at least one of the school’s 15 driving programs and five motorcycle performance track-riding formats in 2008, besting the previous high mark of 3,800 set in 2006. Over 2,900 drivers and 1,500 riders made up the total. The Mid-Ohio School has now produced more than 31,000 alumni, including 10,500 teenagers.
Also setting a record for enrollments was the school’s Acura High Performance Course, which graduated nearly 300 drivers this season over 15 program days. The Mid-Ohio School’s Corporate Driving Experience, which provides a unique entertainment alternative for companies and teaches high-performance driving and team-building skills to corporate groups and their guests, had a near-record 38 program days in 2008.
The Mid‐Ohio School welcomed three new corporate partners this year as well, including KTM North America (Official Motorcycle), OMP (Official Helmet) and Westfield Insurance (Official Insurance Company). These companies joined partners American Honda Motor Co. Inc., Comfort Inn, CORSA, JEGS, Kumho Tires, Performance Friction Brakes, Quality Inn and Sunoco as official school sponsors and suppliers in 2008.
“It was an outstanding year by a number of measures,” said The Mid-Ohio School Director Steve Bidlack. “Setting the enrollment record and introducing the new courses and formats would not have been possible without the support of American Honda, all our partners, and the innovative ideas of our team. That support and dedication should continue to serve as well as we face the growing challenges of this tough economy.”
The school’s Honda Teen Defensive Driving Program continues to be its most popular offering. The class teaches fundamental car control through classroom sessions and a series of drills behind the wheel. Approximately 1,000 teens went through the program this past season, including those who attended the school’s teen program Open House, participants in the Dublin (Ohio) Teen Driving Road-eo and more than 100 at-risk teenagers who took part in the Westfield Insurance Road-Safe Teens program.
