The Mid-Ohio School, owned and operated by TrueSports, Incorporated, has just begun its 17th season looking to build on last year’s success that saw a record number of graduates go through its programs.
The 2008 season was an epic one for The Mid-Ohio School as over 4,000 students completed one of 20 driving and riding courses. This number added to the current alumni figure of 31,500 - including 10,500 teenage drivers - which the school boasts since opening in 1993.
The biggest addition to this season’s programs was made to the Open Testing & Tuning format. A new feature has been added called Open Track Time that will allow new and experienced drivers to get some laps around Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in their own car for a price of $195. Each participant is guaranteed three 20-minute sessions around the 2.25-mile, 13-turn course during select twilight events. Behind the wheel of their car, Open Track Time also allows automotive and racing enthusiasts a chance to put themselves in their favorite driver’s shoes, getting to experience each turn, twist and hairpin that the track offers to challengers.
“Last year was a big one for us and we want to carry that momentum into 2009,” said Michelle Trueman Gajoch, president of TrueSports, Inc. “We’ve added the Open Track Time feature in response to the racing enthusiasts’ demand for access to track time around Mid-Ohio. This new format allows people to do just that in a cost effective manner.”
The Performance Riding Program enters its fourth year with formats of Standard One- and Two-day, Limited Endurance Day (LED), Max-Time and Max-Time Twilight, and All-In-Two. Each course gets the rider crucial track experience on his own sportbike. The Mid-Ohio School is not just for motorcycling veterans, however, as riders of all skill levels can enroll to learn and improve on skills such as cornering, body position, lean angle, throttle control and steering input.
The riding side of The Mid-Ohio School was introduced to the docket in 2006, adding to the 15 automobile courses the school offers each season. Programs range from the Honda Teen Defensive Driving program for newer drivers to the Acura Three-Day High Performance Program for experienced motorists. In addition to these individual classes, the school also serves companies through the Fleet Training and Corporate Driving Experience programs. The Mid-Ohio School also caters to racing enthusiasts with programs like Competition Licensing School, Competition Course and Coaching.
The Mid-Ohio School would not be where it is today without the support of its sponsors and partners. Honda, the official vehicle of The Mid-Ohio School, has been on board since 1994, and the school secured KTM as the official motorcycle partner last season for the Performance Track Riding formats. Westfield Insurance also joined on as the official insurance company in 2008. Additionally, Comfort Inn & Suites, JEGS, Kumho Tires, Performance Friction Brakes, Quality Inn & Suites and Sunoco are official sponsors and suppliers of The Mid-Ohio School.
The Mid-Ohio School provides professional driving and riding instruction to drivers and motorcyclists of all skill levels. The school’s 15 automobile courses include Defensive Driving, High Performance and Racing categories. The motorcycle side features five Performance Track Riding formats. Students enjoy classroom sessions, skill drills, expert private instruction and lapping on the same track that challenges the world’s top racers.
