The Mid-Ohio School’s skid car and two of its instructors will be the featured attraction at the Street Smarts Safe Driving Program at Cuyahoga Valley Career Center (CVCC) this Saturday, March 28, in Brecksville, Ohio.
The event, starting at 8 a.m. in the Automotive Mechanic classroom on the CVCC campus is hosted by the NeOhio Region of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). High school juniors and seniors will get the chance to learn different theories and practices of driving safely not only in the classroom but also on the pavement.
The Mid-Ohio School’s skid cars are Honda Civic coupes that are mounted externally with hydraulically-controlled outriggers to simulate driving in inclement weather conditions such as ice and rain. Over 100 CVCC students are expected to attend the day’s events.
“It’s not often we get the chance to bring the skid car to students, so this is a lot of fun for the instructors. Seeing the students try to maneuver in the skid car for the first time and then to see them get the hang of it is a real joy to watch,” said Dave Roush, general manager of The Mid-Ohio School.
The goal of CVCC is to ready students of all ages for the professional world and help them make educated decisions regarding their careers by providing instruction in numerous fields and disciplines.
The SCCA desires to unite passionate fans of motorsports all across America. It does this on a local basis with regional events like this one and stretches its reach across the country with national championship competitions for both professional and amateur racers.
The Mid-Ohio School provides professional driving and riding instruction to drivers and motorcyclists of all skill levels. The school’s 15 automobile courses include Defensive Driving, High Performance and Racing. The motorcycle side features five Performance Track Riding formats. Students enjoy classroom sessions, skill drills, expert private instruction and lapping on the same track that challenges the world’s top racers. In 16 seasons The Mid-Ohio School has 31,500 graduates, including 10,500 teenagers.
