COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Bobby Rahal, Hall of Fame IndyCar driver and Co-Owner of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, returns to his Buckeye roots this weekend for a grand honor. The Ohio native will serve as the honorary grand marshal of The Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio on July 6th.

"[It] means a tremendous amount being a Buckeye; born in Medina, Ohio, went to Denison University, and lived in Columbus from 1981-2010, Truesports Racing, so many great memories. So much time spent in the Buckeye State," said Bobby Rahal. It's awesome, I can't wait for the weekend."

Bobby has a winning track record at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, having won twice in Lexington as a driver, in 1985 and 1986, and once as a team owner in 2015 with his son, Graham Rahal, taking the checkered flag with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. The father-son duo shares many fond memories at the track.

"On Saturday night, it has become a tradition for Graham and me to get in our golf carts and drive around the campgrounds. It's so much fun and the people are magic," said Bobby Rahal. "Great fans at Mid-Ohio, and it keeps getting bigger."

Graham won at Mid-Ohio in 2015, the same year the Buckeyes won a national championship. Ten years later, Ohio State football won another national championship, and Graham is hoping his home team brings him some luck once again at Mid-Ohio.

"It would always be awesome to win at home," said Graham Rahal. "It was obviously one of the highlights of my life, not just my career, winning there in 2015 with my dad and when my most of my family was there, which I anticipate having them there this weekend as well. I mean, it would be it would be huge," said Graham Rahal.

The Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio airs on FOX28 at 1 P.M. this Sunday.
