Championship Tightens as Trans Am TA2® Brings Stacked Field to Mid-Ohio

Rafa Matos and Mike Skeen battle for points in championship chase


LEXINGTON, OHIO (24 June 2021)- Tying a five-year record-high number of event entries, the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli returns to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for the Vintage Grand Prix June 25-27. More than 50 fire breathing Trans Am cars are expected for the event with 29 TA2® drivers set to take the green on Saturday, the most entries for the class at Mid-Ohio since 2016.

As the field gains competitors, the TA2® class competition gets tougher, making every round just as important as the last. The championship standings entering Mid-Ohio are even tighter with a mere one point separating first-place Rafa Matos (112) from defending class champion Mike Skeen (111), with third-place Thomas Merrill still within striking distance just five points behind Matos (107).

LEXINGTON, Ohio (June 24, 2021) – Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course is going to be a busy and fun place to be over the next two weekends as Ohio is fully open again. Back-to-back race events start with the Vintage Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio this weekend (June 25-27), then Ohio’s largest annual motorsports event, The Honda Indy 200 Presented by the HPD Ridgeline, follows on July 2-4. The longest continuously-running spectator event at the track, The Vintage Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio, will feature 24 races taking the green flag at the 2.258-mile, 13-turn road course in Lexington, Ohio. Sports Car Vintage Racing Association’s (SVRA) SpeedTour offers diverse, non-stop racing action for fans when it brings four very different types of racing series to town.

Paddock Passes and Pit Passes, as well as general admission tickets, are available for purchase now at midohio.com/tickets. Hospitality guests and Season Race Passholders will receive paddock access at no extra cost.

Ty Gibbs Extends Streak Of Victories, Wins ARCA Menards Series’ 1,500th Race

LEXINGTON, Ohio — One of Ty Gibbs’ streaks in the ARCA Menards Series ended Friday, when he failed to earn his sixth consecutive General Tire Pole Award and qualified second for the Dawn 150 at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course.

But the 18-year-old driver of the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota extended the more important streak and won his fourth ARCA Menards Series race in a row, again in dominating fashion.

LEXINGTON, Ohio (June 4, 2021) - Stock car racing returns for a doubleheader feature at the 2.258-mile, 13-turn Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course later today for the B&L Transport 170 race weekend. The ARCA Menards Series races at 6 p.m. ET tonight (June 4) in the Dawn 150, then the NASCAR Xfinity Series takes the green flag for the B&L Transport 170 just past 1 p.m. ET on Saturday (June 5).
